Examination & Assessment Policy

1. Purpose & Scope

This policy ensures that all assessments at Riphah International University, Faisalabad, are conducted with fairness, transparency, and academic integrity. It applies to all students across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, including continuous assessments, midterm and final examinations, practicals, and project evaluations.

2. Types of Assessment
  • Continuous Assessment – Includes quizzes, assignments, presentations, class participation, and lab work.
  • Midterm Examination – Conducted at the mid-point of the semester, covering approximately 50% of the course content.
  • Final Examination – Comprehensive assessment covering the entire course, conducted at the end of the semester.
  • Practical/Clinical Examinations – Applied evaluations for laboratory, studio, or clinical work.
  • Thesis/Project Evaluation – For graduate and postgraduate students, assessed through written submission and viva voce.
3. Eligibility to Appear in Examinations
  • Minimum 75% attendance in each course.
  • Clearance of all tuition and other dues.
  • No pending disciplinary actions that bar exam participation.
4. Examination Conduct Rules
  • Students must arrive at the examination hall 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
  • University ID card is mandatory for entry.
  • No electronic devices (except approved calculators) are allowed.
  • Students must follow seating plans assigned by the examination department.
  • Talking, signaling, or exchanging materials during an exam will be treated as academic misconduct.
5. Academic Integrity & Misconduct
  • Cheating, plagiarism, impersonation, or aiding others in dishonest practices will result in strict disciplinary action, which may include:
    • Cancellation of the exam.
    • Suspension from the university.
    • Permanent expulsion in severe cases.
  • Plagiarism in assignments, reports, or thesis work will be checked via plagiarism detection software, with the acceptable limit defined by HEC policy.
6. Grading & Results
  • Grading follows the HEC-approved grading scale (Letter Grades & GPA system).
  • Midterm assessments typically contribute 30–40%, and finals contribute 60–70% of the total course grade, depending on the course structure.
  • Results are published on the university portal within 15 working days of the final examination.
7. Rechecking & Re-evaluation
  • Students may apply for rechecking of their answer scripts within 7 working days of result announcement.
  • Rechecking includes verification of totaling errors, unchecked questions, and proper marking — not re-marking of answers.
  • For thesis or project evaluations, appeals must be submitted to the Examination Review Committee.
8. Makeup & Deferred Examinations
  • Students unable to attend an exam due to medical emergencies, family bereavement, or official university duties must submit proof and request a makeup exam within 48 hours.
  • Makeup exams may have a different format from the original exam.
9. Confidentiality & Security
  • Examination papers are prepared, moderated, and secured by authorized faculty and examination staff.
  • Unauthorized possession or disclosure of examination materials is a serious offense.
