Dr. Usman Khalil

Head, Department of Environmental Sciences

Message from HOD

Environmental challenges—from urban pollution to climate and biodiversity loss—demand graduates who can think scientifically and act responsibly. At the Department of Environmental Sciences, we equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values to maintain, protect, and restore ecosystems while supporting sustainable development.

Understand Earth. Protect Life.

Our BS program blends strong foundations from Chemistry and Biochemistry with core environmental studies. Through theory, laboratory work, and practical learning, students learn to assess environmental change, manage resources wisely, and translate evidence into solutions and policy support—preparing them for meaningful impact in industry, academia, and the community.

About The Department

Established at Riphah International University, Faisalabad, as a joint initiative of the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Department of Environmental Sciences aims to develop resourceful environmental scientists able to address local and global challenges. The curriculum is delivered through integrated theoretical and hands-on modes, encouraging inquiry, problem-solving, and responsible stewardship of natural systems.

Our educational objectives include: building clear understanding of environmental systems, resources, and drivers of change; providing high-quality education for aspiring environmentalists and the wider public; and preparing graduates to design sustainable solutions, support implementation of environmental policies, and communicate evidence to decision-makers. Coursework emphasizes scientific measurement, data organization, and practical application.

Collaboration is central to our mission. The department works with industrial and professional partners to identify emerging human–environment issues and to co-develop responses. Excellence is measured by the caliber of graduates and research outputs, as well as the department’s service to the community and relevant agencies in tackling real environmental concerns.
