Prof. Dr. Khalil ur Rehman
Head, Department of Biochemistry
Message from HOD
Biochemistry explores the chemical foundations of life—how molecules build cells, drive metabolism, transmit signals, and sustain health. At the Department of Biochemistry, we cultivate scientific curiosity, rigorous thinking, and ethical practice so students can understand biological systems at the molecular level and translate that knowledge into solutions for real-world problems.
Understand Life at the Molecular Level.
Our teaching blends clear theory with hands-on experimentation, data analysis, and research mentoring. Students learn to frame questions, design experiments, interpret results, and communicate findings—skills that open pathways to careers in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, agriculture, and academic research.
About The Department
The Department of Biochemistry offers BS, MPhil, and PhD programs aligned with Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines and informed by current advances in the field. Curricula integrate core areas—biomolecules, enzymology, metabolism, molecular biology, genetics, cell signaling, and bioinformatics—with strong foundations in quantitative analysis, scientific writing, and research ethics.
Learning is anchored in modern laboratories, where students gain proficiency with contemporary biochemical techniques and instrumentation. Research is central to the student experience: undergraduates and postgraduates participate in faculty-led projects through independent study, thesis work, and grant-supported opportunities, building confidence and professional readiness.
By graduation, students are able to (1) explain structure–function relationships of molecules forming the cellular and tissue framework, (2) apply analytical and critical thinking to investigate biological phenomena using the scientific method, and (3) employ modern biochemical methods—from experimental design to data acquisition and interpretation. This combination of knowledge, practical skill, and research exposure prepares our graduates for advanced study and impactful roles across the life sciences.
